Role-playing activity
Let's Go Shopping!
Role-playing activities are a fantastic way to encourage young learners to use English in meaningful and real-life situations. Through pretend play, children develop confidence, communication skills, and vocabulary while having fun.
One of my favourite role-play activities is creating a simple supermarket in the classroom. Children can take turns being the shop assistant and the customer while practising useful everyday expressions.
Some examples of language they can use include:
🛒 Hello!
🛒 Can I have an apple, please?
🛒 Here you are.
🛒 Thank you.
🛒 Goodbye!
Role-play activities help children develop speaking and listening skills naturally. They also encourage cooperation, imagination, and social interaction, making language learning more meaningful and engaging.
Benefits of role-playing activities:
Develop speaking confidence.
Practise real-life vocabulary.
Encourage social interaction.
Improve listening skills.
Support learning through play.
This activity can be adapted to different topics such as restaurants, toy shops, cafés, doctor's surgeries, or meeting new friends.
Happy learning through play!
